DIY Gentle Exfoliating Face Scrub

Week 3 of our March Monday DIY series and today is all about the Gentle Exfoliating Face Scrub!

So many people never consider exfoliation to be a key in their skincare routine but don't skip this stepits vital to smooth glowing skin!

Exfoliation helps buff away dead skin cells, smooth texture, and unclog pores your cleanser might have missed, resulting in fewer breakouts. And if that wasn't reason enough- long term exfoliation can even improve collagen production, which is key to glowing, vibrant skin.

My favorite go-to gentle face exfoliator will always be our White Rabbit Naturals Exfoliating Powder, loaded with skin loving ingredients like aloe vera, french green clay, and rosehip powder, this is another natural way to get some exfoliation in at home! But this DIY is another natural alternative in a pinch!

DIY Gentle Exfoliating Face Scrub

With just 3 all- natural ingredients - and a few optional ones if you have them on hand - this gentle scrub can be used 2-3 times a week for glowing, clean skin!

Oat flour in this mixture helps soothe the skin and provides inflammatory benefits. Oats also contain compounds called saponins, which are natural cleansers.

Rice Flour not only helps exfoliate the skin but it also helps absorb excess sebum helping skin feel smooth, clean, and re-energized.

Baking soda does wonders if you have acne prone skin (but it's still gentle enough for even those with sensitive skin) as it helps soften the sebum and debris on the face allowing them to be exfoliated and removed.

Optional ingredients include:
Kaolin clay: perfect for removing toxins and soothing irritation
Matcha Powder: protects against environmental stressors and reduce redness
Papaya Powder: helps even skin tone and enhance complexion
Cranberry Powder: High in vitamins E & C, helps minimize signs of aging

Make time: 5 min

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp oat flour (see 'to make' below for how to make your own)

1/2 Tbsp white rice powder (see 'to make' below for how to make your own)

1/4 tsp of baking soda

Optional:

1 tsp kaolin clay

1 tsp cranberry, papaya, or matcha powder

To Make:

Combine all ingredients into a bowl and stir to mix.

Jar mixture in a container with a tight lid.

If you are making your own oat flour or rice powder: simply add the 2 Tbsp of plain uncooked oats to a food processor (or a clean coffee grinder) and the 1/2 Tbsp of uncooked white rice. Pulse mixture into you reach a uniform powder consistency. Let sit for 20 sec before removing the lid to let the powders settle.

I like to jar mine in a clean, empty spice jar with large holes or removing the shaker part of the lid all together. I recommend using a jar or bottle with a smaller neck as this will allow you to shake the right amount in your hand when using without it all tumbling out into your bathroom sink!

To Use:

This gentle formula can be used up to 3 times a week. Start with a clean face free of makeup. Wet face and shake 1 tsp of mixture (about the size of a quarter) into the palm of your hand. Apply mixture to face scrubbing in circular motions for 30 sec - 1 min, adding more water if needed. Rinse and pat dry.

Follow up with our Golden Face Oil or Repair Face Oil for ultimate glowing skin!

Store the mixture in a dry place away from water (and be sure to keep water out of the mixture) and it should last 1-2 months.
