March Mondays have begun and I couldn't be more excited! Each Monday in March I will teach you how to make a DIY beauty product, in under 20min, with the items in your pantry and home!
Today is all about body scrubs!
We will be making:
1. Caffeine Body Polish: great for exfoliating the skin in the shower or bath. Caffeine has also been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite on the skin!
2. Sore Muscle Scrub: great for helping sore muscles recover post workout or if you've been feeling a little tense lately. The combo of salts and peppermint oil in this scrub help awaken the body while replenishing minerals and relax the muscles.
DIY Caffeine Body Polish
This Caffeine Body Polish is great for that at-home-spa experience in 5 min. The caffeine in the ground coffee helps improve blood circulation, may reduce the appearance of cellulite and gives the skin a more even tone. The raw cane sugar helps exfoliate skin while the oil leaves skin feeling moisturized and supple.
I recommend adding the orange essential oil for a brightening scent and vitamin e to give it even more antioxidants and extend the freshness.
Make time: 5 min
Ingredients:
½ cup raw cane sugar
½ cup unused ground coffee
4 tablespoons coconut oil (You can also use avocado oil, sweet almond oil, or olive oil)
8 - 9oz container with lid
Optional:
1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E
10-12 drops of orange essential oil
To Make:
Place the sugar, coffee grounds, and oil in a bowl and stir with a rubber spatula to combine. When using coconut oil that is more solid, I like to press the ingredients against the side of the bowl to incorporate to oil and dry ingredients. Once the ingredients are combined, add 1/2 teaspoon of vitamin e to preserve freshness and add antioxidants. The mixture should resemble coarse damp sand. Then add 10-12 drops of essential oil, stir again, and that's it! Jar mixture and use within 2 weeks.
Makes 8-9 oz
To Use:
Because this mixture does not contain any water there is no need to add a preservative however, the key is keeping water out to prevent mold and bacteria growth. When it's time to use it, scoop your desired amount out of your jar with a spoon and into a shower safe bowl or container and bring it into the shower/bath with you. Store in a dry/cool place.
In a shower or bath, apply to warm damp skin in circular motions and rinse. Do not use in sensitive areas. Be careful as it may make your shower or bath slightly more slippery.
DIY Sore Muscle Scrub
This Sore Muscle Scrub is great for tension in the shoulders, neck and back or post-workout. The epsom salt in this scrub is great for replenishing vitamins and minerals in the skin with magnesium and flushing out toxins. Peppermint Oil helps give this scrub its energizing scent and contains menthol, which has a cooling effect on sore, achy muscles. It also has analgesic, antispasmodic, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Make time: 5 min
Ingredients:
½ cup raw cane sugar
¼ cup epsom salt (use ¼ c of Himalayan sea salt if you do not have this)
¼ cup Himalayan sea salt: fine grain
3 tablespoons of avocado oil (you can also use sweet almond oil or coconut oil)
10-15 drops peppermint essential oil
8 - 9oz container with lid
Optional:
1/2 teaspoon of vitamin E
1-2 tablespoons of unscented castile soap
To Make:
Place the sugar, epsom salt, Himalayan sea salt, and oil in a bowl and stir with a rubber spatula to combine. Once the ingredients are combined, add 1/2 teaspoon of vitamin e (to help preserve freshness and add antioxidants) and 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil, stir to combine. You can also add 1-2 tablespoons of castile soap if you want extra cleansing power + an exfoliating scrub.
The mixture should resemble coarse damp sand.
Add to a jar with a lid (I prefer a plastic lid over a metal one due to the salt in this mixture which can corrode the metal over time) and use within 2-3 weeks.
Makes 8-9 oz
To Use:
Because this mixture does not contain any water there is no need to add a preservative however, the key is keeping water out to prevent mold and bacteria growth. When it's time to use it, scoop your desired amount out of your jar with a spoon and into a shower safe bowl or container and bring it into the shower with you. Store in a dry/cool place.
In a shower or bath, apply to warm damp skin and let soak in for 5-15 min, then rinse. Do not use in sensitive areas. Be careful as it may make your shower slightly more slippery.
